#RemixFix2015 Wardrobe Project

Remember from last week that one of my resolutions was to shop less?  (...And that Fall wardrobe remix I had all planned out until moving happened?)  Well, it's on.

Rather than calling it a "Challenge" like so many of the shopping-ban and 30x30 endeavors, I'm calling this a project, because hopefully then it won't be hard :)

My biggest beef with all the minimalist/capsule wardrobes I've seen is that they seem kind of predictable and boring.  Oh another gray sweater and black skinny pants?!  How earth-shattering.  I mean, if you wear four colors your whole wardrobe will obviously coordinate, but you'll only wear four colors!

It took me a lot of thought and planning to pick my items and develop a plan that would force me to be a little creative without feeling totally constricted.  Ultimately, my goal is to come to terms with the fact that I have way more clothing than any person needs, and that I can easily, and enjoyably work with a more limited wardrobe.  Sounds do-able, right?  Right.

So, in an effort to simplify my wardrobe and my never-ending list of wants, I'm kicking off a 3-month wardrobe project: two months of wearing a very limited portion of my closet, then one month of purging.  And because there's virtually no way I could do it alone, I've convinced fellow blogger and shopaholic, Carylee, to join me : )

What's my awesome plan you ask?  Well, essentially I picked a limited number of items from my wardrobe, and it's all I'm going to wear until March 15th.  My selection consists of 35 items of clothing, and 30 accessories (shoes, purses, jewelry, belts, and scarves).  While this may sound like the size of the average person's wardrobe, it's very scaled back from the actual (ridiculous) count of items in my closet.  (Closet inventory coming soon #bringontheshame.)

Now, because everything is more fun in groups, Carylee and I would love to have more ladies join us!  Below I've outlined the rules that we're following.  If you want to join, start sharing your outfits on instagram with the hashtag #remixfix2015.  I'm also going to host a special linkup at the end to give everyone an opportunity to share a recap post, or a few of their favorite looks from during the project.

The Rules

  • Select items you will remix for the next 2 months (until March 15th)- whether or not you limit shoes/purses/accessories/jewelry is up to you

  • At the end of January, you can swap out up to four items, in case you blew it picking a few dumb items

  • You're allowed ZERO purchases in January and ONE purchase in February

  • Loungewear, gym clothes, tights, and layering items (camis, undershirts, etc) don't count toward the totals

  • If a special occasion arises (wedding, cocktail party, business professional event, etc…) you can wear anything in your closet

  • Rewards points/cash/etc can be used towards the allotted purchase, but otherwise must be saved for afterwards

*Disclaimer:  I will share a few looks on my blog featuring items from blog sponsors during this time, I will not however be mixing these new items into my wardrobe until after the project has ended.

Now on to the pared down wardrobe I've selected, I left out jewelry because tracking down photos of all my old favorites was dumb, so you'll just have to wait with baited breath to see which pieces made the cut ;)
*I used the pictures of the exact items I'll be styling, unless noted by one asterisk
** Two asterisks denote that it's no longer available and I've linked a similar style

PHEW!  When I go through and link everything I suddenly wish I did a 10-piece wardrobe instead, but we all know that would last like 5 minutes.  If you think you're going to join, I'd love to hear about it in the comments, and remember to hashtag away on Instagram, #RemixFix2015 :)

  1. I'm SO excited for this! I love how much variety you have in pieces and in colors. As much as I zone in on a few "top colors" in the winter months, I also get kind of bored by the typical capsule wardrobe "looks", so I'm excited to see yours! :)

  4. Yay!! I'm so excited to see all this laid out! You are my hero for having the guts to do this upfront. I could not pick my pieces all at the same time! Can't wait to see this come together!!

  5. I love this! I'm doing a winter capsule with somewhat similar amounts/restrictions. I like how it forces a little creativity but mostly forces me to realize that I have way more than I need in my closet - definitely makes you approach your wardrobe and shopping differently. Looking forward to seeing what you do with these items - some great pieces here!

  6. Wow, this is a great challenge! I should do something similar, but as my closet is overflowing and needs some editing. I'm excited to see all of the different combos you come up with!
