Tweed & Weekly Linkup
Blazer: Nordstrom (similar 40% off!) // Tunic: Loft (similar) // Jeans: American Eagle // Tote: Nordstrom (also love) // Flats: Julie Lopez c/o
In less than one week, I have an interview for a job I really, really want. The interview will be nearly four hours long, and the thing I'm freaking out about most is what I'm going to wear. It would be a very 'business casual' job, but they recommend 'business professional' for the interview. And while of course I'll dress accordingly, 'Business professional' is one of my least favorite phrases, ever.
Business professional always just feels so stuffy, and when I wear it I feel like I'm pretending to be someone I'm not. I'm hoping I can figure out a way to dress up this blazer, but thus far I don't have any appropriate bottoms. I hate to buy something simply for an interview, but I also don't want to squeeze into an ancient pair of trousers, because too small isn't a great look either. I'm thinking maybe a pair of slim black trousers would do the trick? Maybe a pencil skirt? Does this blazer even qualify as business professional? Should I be focusing more on brushing up on my SQL and software development lifecycle lingo? ...well I at least know the answer to the last question.
Anyhow, where's your favorite place to buy work trousers (ideally affordable, long ones)? Because it seems I'm in the market for a pair of those.

This blazer is definitely business professional. Do you have sheath dress to pair with it? I think a pair of slim black pants or a pencil skirt would do the trick too. Good luck!

Hope to see you Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.
I am a nurse, so I am a bit out of touch with business professional, but I think that blazer would certainly be great for your interview. It would look very nice with a pencil skirt and pumps. Good luck to you! It sounds like an exciting opportunity! Susan
ReplyDeleteI think the blazer paired with a pencil skirt would look great for an interview. Good luck!

Good luck with your interview! It's been so long since I've needed business professional (I work from home) that I'm a bit out of touch with it too, but slim black pants always sounds good - professional but also age appropriate and modern. Would look great with this fabulous jacket! Which I also love with the long blouse, for non-interview days :)
ReplyDeleteI always feel like I'm pretending in business professional outfits too. I think a great pair of black pants would work just fine, I've always had luck with dress pants at the Limited. Good luck with your interview!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the job! Long interviews are usually a good thing! You look adorable!!

I agree with the others, the blazer would work great together with either a pencil skirt or sleek black trousers and a crisp white shirt underneath. Love the shirt you are wearing here so, and the slippers.

I think that blazer would totally work for a "business professional" interview--maybe with a pencil skirt or trousers and fab pumps? I never have luck finding dressy trousers either--when I have in the past I've had luck at Gap and the Limited though. Good luck at your interview!!!
ReplyDeleteThat jacket would totally work for business professional and would look great with a pencil or trousers. I work from home and rarely need business clothes anymore, but I always had luck at LOFT, Ann Taylor, J. Crew Factory (for pencils), and The Limited. Good luck!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat flats and such a versatile jacket/blazer. Love the look!

Business casual is my favourite! I agree that business professional can be stuff. I think this blazer definitely qualifies as something you can wear to this interview. I think a pencil skirt would look awesome with it. You could go with black, or something a bit more fun like a dark forest green or purple. But honestly, whatever you choose will look awesome. GOOD LUCK with the interview!!

Best of luck on the interview! Don't worry, you'll do fine. And if you just pair the top and blazer combo with black pants that'll be fine.
