Disclaimer... I photographed this outfit last week, as I was narrowing down what 35 items of clothing made the cut for my limited wardrobe project.  So, since you probably memorized my very important capsule, you realize this outfit isn't totally kosher ;)  The vest didn't make the cut.  It's been on the blog a few times and it is very versatile, however I just don't quite love it.  I ended up picking a couple less basic vests, but I get excited to wear them because they have more personality and I find them more flattering.  
Picking out the items for my capsule ended up taking me longer than anticipated for that very reason.  Finding the perfect balance between items that were versatile, and items that were interesting proved challenging.  I didn't want a collection of 35 statement pieces, because it would become quickly obvious that I was wearing the same thing over and over again if each article was memorable.  Alternatively, 35 very versatile items could lend to a bland wardrobe.  Ultimately, I went with mostly "basics", but definitely ventured out with a few funky colors and patterns.  I have 5 or 6 pieces that are very distinct, and I'll be very curious to see how much wear I end up getting out of them (like my BCBG sweater wrap, overalls, and mauve quilted sweater).  I'll definitely be doing a recap to go through what wise and poor choices I made during the selection process.
